Diablo Immortal earns almost £20m in just two weeks
Despite the controversy surrounding its release, Diablo Immortal – Blizzard’s miniature Diablo game – brought in more than PS20 millions ($24m) since its launch in the middle of this month.
According to the analysts of Appmagic (thanks, Pocket Gamer) the app means that Diablo Immortal – which has been downloaded more than 8 million times within the last two weeks – to be one of Blizzard’s most popular mobile apps that is next to the colossal popular Hearthstone.
The game has had its greatest success in the US where it is responsible for 26 percent of the total downloads. It is followed by South Korea, Brazil, and Japan with 11 percent eight per cent, and 8 percent of market share according to the respective figures. The UK is the only country to be included in the 17 percent “other” category which aggregates low-level data throughout the world.
While it’s only responsible for 26 percent of downloads worldwide, US players make up 43 percent of the earnings. South Korea once again comes in second (with 23 percent) and is followed by Japan (8 percent) along with Germany (6 percent). Based on the analysis the game is equally liked by Apple and Android players.
This week, we discovered that Diablo Immortal had the lowest rating for users of any PC game on Metacritic. On iOS it scored a pathetic 0.5 /10 whereas on PC it was less: 0.2 (checking this morning this morning, it appears that the iOS score has now fallen to 0.4 while its PC score has risen just a tiny bit up to 0.3). The news came one day after we revealed that it would cost the equivalent of PS88,000 ($110,000) to completely enhance a character’s abilities to the highest level in Diablo Immortal.
Players of Diablo Immortal have three different progression elements: XP level, equipment level as well as Legendary Gems. These two are typical in every RPG game, however collating Legendary Gems can be a complicated and expensive process because how you earn these gems is often random, and very uncommon… And,, right now, it appears like F2P players are unable to get them in any way.

Blizzard recently announced the fact that Diablo 4 will launch for PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S later this year. In a bid to quell fan fears that it too may be microtransaction-heavy, franchise exec Rod Fergusson said: “To be clear, [Diablo 4] is a full-price game built for PC/PS/Xbox audiences”.
