God of War Ragnarok – Story Trailer Breakdown

September 18, 2022

God of War: Ragnarok’s release date is quickly approaching. With players eagerly anticipating the AAA game, Sony showed more about the plot in the game. A trailer for the story was released during the 2022 Sony State of Play, featuring three minutes of exciting content. With so much to look at it’s easy to overlook the details of a trailer such as this. Viewers can use the below list of things to see to find any things they might have missed.

Note The following breakdown outlines the trailer and provides thoughts, observations, and forecasts that are based on the background of the trailer as well as the game that preceded it.

Atreus’ New Powers

We didn’t get to take a complete view of Atreus’s power during God of War, as Atreus himself was not aware of his position as God. God for the majority of the game. It’s very likely we will see more of the things Atreus can do and, having a father figure like Kratos and Kratos, he’ll have a lot of power.

Touching the Tree

Touching the Tree

At the opening of the trailer Atreus is able to touch the tree that appears to react in response to the presence of Atreus. It is illuminated by pulsing light. This could be the consequence of Atreus himself or be a mysterious area that is being studied. The significance of the tree to relate to Atreus and his talents is yet to be determined.

Shooting the Sun

Based on God of War’s combat mechanics we learn it is true that Atreus is extremely adept in using the use of his bow and archer to an almost incredible degree. In this trailer, we can look at the more powerful magical capabilities that come from the Atreus bow. In the above image, we can see the sharpshooter shoot an eclipse of the moon and sun, and then plunge his surroundings into an evening scene.

Mysterious Figure in the Doorway

As we watch the video, we witness Atreus open the door only to find a strange figure in the darkness. The figure speaks various times during the movie and at one point, utters “You don’t want war, do you Kratos?” The person in question may appear to be Odin his own. His intro is similar to Thor’s from this game. His speech suggests that he is a form of power in the land that belongs to Norse Gods. Norse Gods.

Kratos and Atreus’ Relationship Rift

Kratos and Atreus’s relationship is not a smooth one at most. In the course that takes place in God of War 2018, we witness Atreus and Kratos bond over a variety of things, but the game concludes with their friendship solidly in place. The trailer for the story seems to reveal a gap between the gods and with Atreus accusing Kratos of not believing in him, and Kratos responding with sarcastic remarks. They could be at odds in the story, possibly due to Odin’s actions (or more likely perhaps those words) that were spoken by Odin himself.

Freya Returns

Freya’s return Freyashould not be a shock to anyone. Kratos and Atreus killed her son at the end of the day, in the end. Freya is seen with a more agitated and frantic appearance in this clip, just as she did following the battle with Kratos and Baldur in the earlier game that ended in Baldur’s death. She pulls a rope around Atreus’s neck and is a green object. It could be a fragment or a remnant of mistletoe that played the most significant role in Baldur’s demise, permitting Kratos as well as Atreus to defeat his ability to withstand.

Giant Wolves

The trailer can see Kratos and Atreus in the trailer, standing alongside two huge beasts. There are many creatures in Norse mythology, and several are shown in this trailer, however, because of the size of the beasts, we can identify the most likely contenders in terms of the nature of their existence and the part they’ll take on for in God of War: Ragnarok.

The two of them are likely the Skoll and Hati the wolves who constantly hunt the sun and moon according to Norse Mythology. This is the scene that we witness them doing when we watch the film. Although this strongly suggests the nature of the 2 wolves could be loosely based on mythology and could also be similar to Fenrir(Loki’s Atreus’offspring, the one who is destined to take on Odin) as well as Geri and Freki(wolves who belong to Odin his own).

New Characters

There were some new characters seen in this trailer but we do not know about their identities. Certain of them have been mentioned in the breakdown previously such as the huge Wolf and the mysterious figure in the entranceway There are however several others worth noting.

Fish Woman

A woman in the shape of a fish can be present in the background of Kratos. It could be a native of the region Kratos discovers himself in or a water-based creature, such as a Nokken in Norse mythology, but her presence indicates that she’ll be a bigger part of the game’s story. At various points in the film, you observe Kratos and Atreus traversing through the water of the land. This is probably where this character will play the biggest part.

The Man sporting the Purple Blade

We can see Kratos fighting an opponent who is wielding an emerald blade. This may be a novel version of an enemy that is a bit less powerful however, he appears to appear to give Kratos an opportunity to earn money. Anyone who can play toe-to-toe against Kratos God of War is likely to be a notable player and the character could play an important role in the story of the game.

Take on Thor

It’s not unexpected it was revealed that God of War: Ragnarok’s story trailer would include an epic battle in between Kratos as well as Thor. Thor’s arrival was mentioned in the final scenes from God of War and the events from the initial game led to an inevitable battle between the two powerful Gods. Thor certainly seeks revenge for the murder of his brothers and two sons who were all killed in Kratos and Atreus at the hands of Atreus and Kratos.
