Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be the last time we see this team of Guardians, says James Gunn

James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 director, has announced that the upcoming Marvel movie will mark the end of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), and his co-stars on screen.

Gunn stated that “This is the end” Deadline’s Hero Nation podcast (opens in new window). It’s huge; it’s so large and so dark and different than what people might expect it to be.

Quill (AKA Star-Lord) is part of the current team. She’s joined by a time-traveling Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis, Pom Klementieff), Rocket and Groot (Vin Diesel).

They’re joined by Will Poulter, the antagonist of the movie Adam Warlock, and Peacemaker star ChukwudiIwuji in an undisclosed part – although Marvel fans might have already guessed what he’s playing.

Gunn stated, “I just want the characters and the story to be true. I’m trying my best. I know that the third film in most trilogies is a pain. Not always.”

Guardians of the Galaxy was released back in 2017. However, we last saw the Guardians again in 2019’s Avengers Endgame where they were fighting to defeat Thanos. We can expect to see Thor (Chris Hemsworth), aboard their ship in Thor, Love and Thunder. This movie will be released in July.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be available on the big screen in 2023 on May 5, 2019. Our complete guide to Phase 4 will keep you up-to-date with the MCU.
