Mortal Kombat 12 “leak” is way too perfect to have been an accident
A “leak” has revealed the first Mortal Kombat 12 teaser. It’s too perfect to be an accident.
The teaser consisted of just a few lines text that was hidden in plain view in an image uploaded to Twitter by NetherRealm Studios producer Jonathan Andersen. Although the post was deleted, resetEra user CaptainKashup (opens in new browser) retrieved a copy of it before it vanished. The image appears to be a nostalgic glance back at Injustice and Mortal Kombat promotional materials.
The monitor at the top right of the image is partially out of frame. However, we can still see a few details. We can see snippets from an email requesting that you not “share any parts of this video” as “fans eagerly scan the internet for any trace”. There are also a few files on the desktop including one called “MK12_Mast ” and another with “Reptile” written in it.
It looks like NetherRealm Studios is teasing a Mortal Kombat 12 trailer, given the email’s reference to a video and the file containing “mast” (as in master) in its name. Reptile is also mentioned, which is great news for those who love the acid-spitting lizard dude. He debuted in Mortal Kombat 1 but was not playable in Mortal Kombat 2.
Ed Boon, NetherRealm Studios’ head, stated back in December that he wanted to announce the next developer’s game. However, he listed more “variables involved” than we are permitted to reveal. These variables may have found their place in NetherRealm’s equation if they are willing to give cheeky teasers such as this.
NetherRealm stated back in July that had completed work on Mortal Kombat 11 and is now ready to start on its next project.
