Overwatch 2 launches in October, will be free to play

Overwatch2 will be available for free on October 4. Activision announced Sunday along with Microsoft’s Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. The hero-based shooter will launch in October as an “early access release” for the player-versus–player component of Overwatch 2. It will also include at least two new heroes, Sojourn or Junker queen to the Overwatch roster.

The sequel to Overwatch will launch with at minimum two new maps, one set in Toronto and one set in New York City. also features a new game mode called “Push” and which includes a variety hero reworks which have been in beta testing from early 2022. Overwatch 2 also introduces the new five against-five team composition, which has been in beta testing and played at the Overwatch League.

Blizzard didn’t provide a release date Overwatch2‘s mission based PvE component. This component is still under development.

Blizzard also showcased new character designs and cosmetics in its announcement trailer. This includes previously unrevealed changes to Symmetra and D.Va. Blizzard stated that it will reveal more information about Overwatch2 in a separate stream.

Overwatch 2 will be available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 as well as Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Cross-platform play will be possible.
