The PGA Awards nominations are out – spelling bad news for Spider-Man: No Way Home at the Oscars

Producers Guild of America announced the nominees for the 33rd PGA Awards. The list includes Belfast and Don’t Look Up. The Power of the Dog and West Side Story are also included.

The biggest surprise was Amazon’s Being the Ricardos. This biopic by Aaron Sorkin about I Love Lucy star Lucille Bell managed to win a nomination despite mixed reviews. Nicole Kidman is gaining acclaim for the role and won the Golden Globe for Best Actress In a Drama. The momentum has shifted in favor of the movie’s overall performance this awards season.

Tick, Boom!, Licorice Pizza and King Richard complete the list of nominations – all five are generally considered to be a shoe-in for nominations.

When it comes to predicting Oscar nominees, the PGA Awards can be a great indicator. The PGA will often nominate blockbusters that have been gaining momentum throughout the year. A Quiet Place and Wonder Woman were previous nominees. Deadpool and Skyfall are also past nominees.

This is bad news for Spider-Man and No Time to Die at Oscars. Both movies are being promoted by the studios, but their chances of being nominated at the Oscars for Best Picture now seem bleak. The two films will have to fight hard to get in contention after they failed to win over PGA.
