The Simpsons Steamed Hams scene is now a playable point-and-click adventure
Despite being re-aired more than 20 years after its original airing, the Simpsons’ Steamed Hams scene has remained a popular meme. You can now play it.
Steamed Hams is the Graphic Adventure, a fan creation of NeoDement. It was created with Adventure Game Studio in order to closely resemble LucasArts classic adventure games like Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion. Instead of trying to figure out the best comebacks for an insult sword fighting duel you need to find the most plausible excuse Skinner can use to answer Superintendent Chalmers’ questions. The whole thing can be played in your browser at Game Jolt (opens in new tab).
Each line is voiced using audio from the original episode, along with additions from The Simpsons Hit and Run and an episode that was added where necessary for gameplay. We don’t mean that version of Hit and Run that an industrious bootlegger reubbed into Russian.
It’s a focused project. You can’t escape Skinner’s window to wander around Springfield. Skinner won’t allow you to alter the script in conversations. But what it does, it does very well. You may be familiar with the character sprites. They were taken straight from The Simpsons Arcade Game, then modified to serve their new purpose as point and click protagonists.
